Established in 2016 by South Korean visionaries Kanghyuk Choi and Sanglak Shon, KANGHYUK explores the themes of safety and protection by adopting the use of deployed airbags salvaged from vehicular wreckages. KANGHYUK then disassembles the spent airbag into its raw components to be recrafted into modern and durable garments and accessories. Their utilitarian signature and inspiration originate from Choi’s graduate collection, which was showcased on SHOWstudio / MACHINE-A and was focused on function, disassembly, repurposing and re-construction.
